This song is about flying off the handle. I feel like there are two people inside of us. One is considerate, loving and kind, the other is harsh, selfish and angry. That yucky one rears it's ugly head every once in a while, and we need to kill him. He's hurting everyone around him, and if we don't kill him, he's gonna take over. This is not a song about tolerance. It's a song about dealing with hurts caused by others. Forgiveness does not mean consent. It means hope.
lyrics
You aren't yourself when it happens
It's not who you are
I know...I know.
I've covered the scars
The waves that crash
Will drag it all away
The sand the sand will bury
Today
The rain that gives
Like tears erase
Cuts and bruises
Barely a trace
I know you're in there
I see in your eyes
The battle will rage
Until one of you dies
You aren't yourself when it happens
It's not who you are
I know...I know.
I've covered the scars
I forgive you
Every time
